The General Manuel Belgrano Bridge was opened on 10th May 1973. The 3 spans, 2 of 163.5m (536ft) and 245m (803ft) are supported by 2 A-shaped towers that both stand at 83m (272ft). The deck has two lanes plus 2 lateral pedestrian walkways.
On 17th December 1999 the bridge was blocked by protestors calling for the resignation of the government. The police (gendarmerie) were called and as a result 2 protestors were shot and killed.
