The Hegigio Gorge Pipeline Bridge is an unusual bridge as it is not used for transport purposes. It is instead a bridge to transfer petroleum oil from the south-east Mandana oil field.
This unusual bridge is the highest bridge in the world not to be crossed by vehicles or people and is in fact now the sixth highest in the world.
Pipeline bridge are not as uncommon as you may think as in some countries centralised heating plants send heat and hot water to local communities in a process known as District Heating or Heat Networks. In most cases it is cheaper to build a bridge than to run them underground.
